Letters, memorandums, scrapbooks, notebooks, documents, clippings, news releases, printed material, and other papers chiefly relating to politics, prison reform, the Jaycees, and Morrison's work for governors Robert W. Scott and James E. Holshouser. Topics of interest include school busing, no-fault auto insurance, capital punishment, desegregation of the UNC System, prison reform, paroles, Georgia-North Carolina boundary dispute, and his service on the North Carolina Task Force of the Justice Fellowship to study and make recommendations for correctional and sentencing reform in North Carolina. Includes personal notes from Governor and Mrs. Scott and others closely associated with the administration and a hand written letter by the Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter to Governor Scott concerning the boundary dispute.

James E. Holshouser, Jr. graduated from Davidson College in 1956. He attended UNC Law School, graduating in 1960. He served in the N.C. House of Representatives for four terms. In 1972 he became governor of N.C. Upon completion of his term in ofice, he joined the law firm of Brown, Holshouser and Pate in southern Pines, N.C.
